Week 2/17-2/20

Hello Wildcats
I hope you all had an excellent long weekend. It was so nice to meet so many parents. If you didn't have a chance to make it to conferences then please feel free to message me and we can schedule something for after school one day in the near future.

Homework (IXL)
Many students are still not completing IXL on a regular basis. IXL is meant to remediate and is beneficial to all students. It is critical that students are logging in 3-5 days/week for 15-20 minutes with a mindset of "I want to get better at math in this skill today and show progress on my smart score" oppose to "I just want to get my time in".
We need to be working on skills that are going to make us better at math, not Kindergarten skills counting to 3. Going forward you will receive no credit for this. Additionally we need to be making progress. Missing 80 out of 82 questions will also receive no credit. I have noticed these have been recurrent issues for several students lately.
Lastly, IXL (1 hr minimum/week) and Savvas are due at 8am every Monday or Tuesday at 8am when we have Mondays off.

Journals/Focus in class
Many students especially 8th grade are starting to have an attitude of packing it in and ready for summer break. It is WAY too early for this mentality. We still have 3 months left of school and 5 weeks until Spring Break. Journals are for a 75 point grade and we need to show consistent effort in this to receive a decent grade on these.

Overall, this has still been an excellent school year. I just wanted to address these issues with homework and effort so we can finish the year off strong.
Let's have a great week!

Sincerely,
Mr. Timperman

IXL over Break

I will be offering 1pt/10 minutes of IXL over break up to 30 bonus points for 300 minutes of IXL to all students. IXL questions must be completed from 12/20-1/5 to be eligible for these bonus points. Thank you everyone have a great break and a Merry Christmas!
Mr. Timperman

P.S. Please make sure your students have a handheld calculator by the time we get back. This will make math much easier as we are focusing on algebra problem solving more than long multiplication and division.

Tutoring cancelled

I will need to cancel tutoring tomorrow in order to leave early for an appointment. We will resume tutoring next Wednesday 12/17.
Thank you
Mr. Timperman

Week of 12/2-12/5

I hope you all had an awesome Thanksgiving Break! We only have 3 more weeks of school until Christmas Break! We need to lock in and stay focused so we earn our break.
IXL- Please continue to try and work on IXL daily. We will be getting chromebooks back this week. I have assigned individual assignments to each student based on their needs. Please look under teacher recommendations and work on those first. Each student should be logging on and practicing IXL for a minimum of 1 hr/week for HW. However, just like in sports, if you want to excel then you should be practicing daily to build your skills.

NWEA- We have NWEA testing on Thursday. Please make sure you have a charged chromebook and are ready to give your best effort. I know you will do great!

Tutoring- We will continue to have tutoring on Wednesdays after school.

As always, please send me a message if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Mr. Timperman

IXL

Hello Wildcat families,

It was so nice meeting many of you last week at conferences. I just wanted to reiterate the importance of IXL for everyone especially since there were some parents I didn't get a chance to meet with. IXL is a proven program that will help your child get where they need to be in math. The best way I can explain it is that I am their 7th or 8th grade math teacher and IXL can be their tutor for any skills they are behind on in previous grades. Just like when with sports, math requires practice daily to be able to excel at. That is why I am highly recommending 20 minutes/night every night of the week. This way it will become a routine and your child will start to notice improvements in their skills.
Thank you so much!

Sincerely,
Mr. Timperman
